Killyleagh Drugs Search Leads To An Arrest And Seizures

Police arrest one man and seize a quality of dsrugs and other related items

Detectives from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Organised Crime Branch have conducted a number of searches in the Killyleagh area of mid-Down earlier today, Friday 24 May, for drugs and related articles.

The operation was carried out with the collective efforts of officers from Downpatrick Neighbourhood Policing Team, Tactical Support Group, Air Support Unit and ANPR Interceptor Unit.

The teams also enlisted the support of the Dog Section, with Police Dog “Nittu”.

Detective Inspector Sweeney from C1 Organised Crime Branch said: “Today’s operation is an example of our ongoing efforts to tackle and disrupt the activities of organised crime groups across Northern Ireland.

“While the activities of groups may vary, from the supply of drugs to fraud and money laundering, they have one common aim and that’s to line their own pockets.

“Sadly, this comes at the expense of local communities, particularly those members who may be in any way vulnerable.”

“Thanks to this operation, we have arrested one man, seized quantities of class A & B controlled drugs, suspected criminal property, mobile phones and two motor vehicles.

“The man, aged 47, has since been released on bail to allow for further enquiries to be conducted.”

Detective Inspector Sweeney added: “Today’s outcome included collective efforts from across our various specialist Police Service departments, but we also rely upon, and are grateful for, the support of local people and communities.

“I’m keen to take this opportunity to appeal to anyone with information or concerns to contact us on 101.”
