Killyleagh CRC Regatta Bathed In Sunshine

Sun Shines On Killyleagh Coastal Rowing Club’s Annual Regatta

Killyleagh Coastal Rowing Club enjoyed a fantastic day of sport and community spirit on Saturday 10 May, as rowers and spectators flocked to the towards to the waterfront for the annual regatta writes Jill Armer, Killyleagh Coastal Rowing Club secretary.

The course was a 2.5k stretch from Town Rock towards East Down Yacht Club incorporating a mass start and both a port and starboard turn, depending on each skiffs lane draw, which added to the excitement and challenge for the crews on the water.

Blessed with sunshine and blue skies, the event saw strong turnouts from visiting crews representing, Strangford, Portavogie, Sketrick, Dundrum, Ardglass and Kilclief. The racing was fast and fiercely competitive as usual, with close finishes keeping spectators on the edge of their seats throughout the day.

Whilst morning waters were calm, conditions turned slightly choppier in the afternoon – adding another challenge for the rowers and an exciting spectacle for the crowd.

Despite the bumps the atmosphere was electric. Onshore KCRC offered their signature warm hospitality, with plenty of food, fun, and ‘craic’ shared among rowers, supporters and guests.

Most crews returned home with some well earned success, and Dundrum CRC claimed the overall regatta win, so well done to them.
