Newcastle and District Amateur Football League.

Premier League Match at Dunleath Park.

Rossglass County FC 1 5 Killough FC.

Both teams played this local derby at Dunleath Park on a pitch not suited to the passing game. The long grass made it difficult for both teams and it was Killough who had the game won by half-time as they raced to a 4-0 lead at the interval writes Cyril McKinney.

In the early stages Rossglass had a couple of half chances through long balls over the top of the Killough defence. Lennon lobbed over the bar on 6 minutes and on 9 minutes a low drive from Burke was easily saved by Crangle in the Killough nets.

As the game developed so did the influence of George and Sharvin in midfield for Killough and after some good approach play from Gargan down the right flank Declan Looney was on hand on 22 minutes to put Killough one up with a deft finish.

Jack McLaughlin.

Try as they could, Rossglass could not find the crucial pass in the final third despite the best work of Tumelty and Burke in midfield and they were two down on 35 minutes when Connor Kelly finished a great move with a clinical finish and a minute later it was 0-3 to the visitors when McLaughlin pounced on a loose ball to tap home from close in.

Just before the interval the game seemed over as a contest when Burns made in 0-4 on 43 minutes with another low shot that crept into the corner of the net past a despairing dive from Blaney in the Rossglass nets.

Whatever the manager had to say at the interval Rossglass started the second half with some urgency with Morrison forcing a good save from the Killough keeper. And on 53 minutes the Killough keeper up-ended Lennon in the middle of a melee. From the resulting penalty Crangle made amends with a great stop with his legs from the Burke penalty.

However two minutes later Rossglass did pull one back with a Morrison shot from close in. Despite a few more half chances Rossglass could not engineer any clear cut chances and on 75 minutes Declan Burns put the result beyond doubt with a low shot from an acute angle on the left that found the net giving Blaney in the Rossglass nets no chance.

In the last five minutes, Rossglass did hit the bar through Burke but by that stage Killough were in cruise control despite the best efforts of a well-beaten Rossglass side.

Rossglass were well served by Waterson and McLaughlin at the back, McEvoy, Tumelty and Burke in the middle and Morrison up front. Killough had great performances from McLaughlin, Murphy and Gargan at the back, George and Sharvin in the middle plus Kelly, Looney and Burns up front.
