Kilkeel Driver Receives Hefty Court Fines

Mrs Hazel Graham (56) of Mourne Esplanade, Kilkeel, was convicted at Newry Magistrates Court on 14 September 2018 for  having no Bus Operators Licence, no PSV Vehicle Licence, no Driving Licence and no insurance.

On 1 July 2017, Mrs Graham was observed driving a 16 seater minibus which had been hired from Shoreline Coaches, Kilkeel. A number of Driver & Vehicle Agency (DVA) officers boarded the bus in Dundrum and as it travelled along Downpatrick Road, Clough, it failed to stop and was driven in a dangerous manner.

Follow up investigations established that Mrs Graham did not hold the necessary licences and insurance to use a minibus to carry passengers for hire or reward.

Mrs Graham was fined £100 for no Bus Operators Licence, £100 for no PSV Vehicle Licence, £100 for no Driving Licence and £250 for no insurance.

She was also charged with a related offence and fined £250 for Dangerous Driving. Mrs Graham was also disqualified from driving for 12 months and until retested, and ordered to pay a £15 offender levy.

At the same Court related charges were also brought against Mr Brian Alistair Graham (56) of the same address.

Mr Graham was convicted as a co accused in the case and fined a total of £250 for no Bus Operators Licence and £250 for no PSV Vehicle Licence. He was also ordered to pay a £15 offender levy.

Mr Graham had previously accepted a booking on 12 June 2017 for the hire of the minibus from a DVA officer.
