Kennedy Announces £60,000 Road Improvement Scheme In Kircubbin

Transport Minister Danny Kennedy has announced that a £60,000 road improvement scheme in Kircubbin is scheduled to begin on Monday 3 November.

dn_screenWork to improve the junction at Rowreagh Road at Rubane Road junction is expected to be complete by the end of November.

The scheme will provide improved sightline for drivers exiting onto the main A20 Portaferry to Newtownards Road. Other work will see the removal of a crest in the road, carriageway resurfacing, drainage improvements and the removal of hedges.

Whilst the Department’s resource budget for activities such as routine maintenance is severely reduced, funding for this scheme is from the capital budget for major projects and new road schemes which is less affected by the current pressures

Danny Kennedy said: “This scheme is one of a number of improvements to the main A20 between Newtownards and Portaferry and will help improve road safety at this often busy junction.”

To help ensure the safety of road users and contractors it will be necessary to put in place temporary traffic control measures. These will include the unavoidable closure of the road for a short time to enable the crest removal and resurfacing works. All diversions will be well signposted.

TransportNI has scheduled the improvements to keep disruption to a minimum, however, delays should be expected and drivers are advised to allow addition time when travelling in the area.
