Kate Nicholson To Sing At Valentine Concert Ballynahinch

Come enjoy St Valentine’s night concert with Kate Nicholson in Ballynahinch

Ballynahinch is set for a St Valentine’s night to remember as Nahinch Notes presents an intimate concert featuring acclaimed singer-songwriter Kate Nicholson.

Since making waves with her debut album Fallen From Grace in 2022, Nicholson has earned widespread recognition for her evocative story-telling and genre-blending sound.

Described by the Daily Mirror as “an outstanding debut record—awash with colour and creativity” and hailed by Sunday Life as “crammed with brilliant music,” Fallen From Grace showcases Nicholson’s rich blend of Americana, blues, and alt-country influences.

The album, nominated for Album of the Year at the NI Music Prize in 2022, weaves together themes of love, loss, betrayal, and resilience, drawing inspiration from legends like Tom Waits, Stevie Nicks, and Nina Simone.

Her songwriting, always rooted in storytelling, is both deeply personal and universally relatable.

Nicholson’s music has enjoyed strong support from BBC Radio Ulster presenters, including Eve Blair and Ralph McLean, who championed her duet Wrong Side of Town with Cormac Neeson (The Answer).

But for Nicholson, nothing compares to the energy of a live audience. “There’s no substitute for that connection,” she explained. “You feed off each other—it’s something very special.”

Beyond her musical career, Nicholson juggles life as a GP and a mother, a balance that shapes her songwriting. “Sometimes people find it surprising, and honestly, sometimes I do too.

“But being a doctor has given me a three-dimensional view of the human condition—from birth to the very end. The highs, the struggles, the heartaches—it all finds its way into my music.”

Kate Nicholson will be singing at the Market House in Ballynahinch on St Valentine’s Night.

The concert marks a highly anticipated return for the Nahinch Notes series, following a weather-related postponement of January’s show featuring The 2:19.

Gareth Gordon, chair of the Ballynahinch Community Collective, expressed his excitement about the upcoming event and said: “We’re thrilled to have Kate Nicholson kick off our 2025 program.

“Ballynahinch audiences can bring their own chocolates and flowers for Valentine’s night- we’re providing the romance and heartbreak with Kate’s incredible music.”

Kate Nicholson will perform at the Market House in Ballynahinch on Friday, February 14th.

Thanks to the support of Newry Mourne, and Down District Council, tickets are free and open to all ages.

Secure your spot via the Nahinch Notes Eventbrite Page and celebrate Valentine’s night with an evening of unforgettable music.
