xa0Downpatrick, Rowallane and Slieve Croob District Electoral Area (DEA) Fora have linked up with County Down Rural Community Network (CDRCN), Home Accident Prevention and Age Friendly Alliance to host an exciting new ‘Senior Shindig’ event for older people.

This unique event will take place on:

at The Millbrook Lodge Hotel, Ballynahinch

Newry Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Roisin Mulgrew, said: “Older people will enjoy a fun packed day of entertainment with cultural dancers, a bespoke comedy drama performance with a hard-hitting safety message, healthy bingo and much more.

Getting ready for the big Shindig at the Millbrook Lodge Hotelxa0 Centre are local DEA members from Rowallene, Slieve Croob and Downpatrick with members and staff of the County Down RCN, the Home accident Prevention and the Age Friendly Alliance.

“There will be a range of statutory and voluntary agencies present, offering vital information and advice that will enhance health and wellbeing outcomes.

Councillor Mulgrew added: “The ‘Senior Shindig’ aims to reduce rural and social isolation by providing a platform for people to chat, connect and build new relations. I am delighted to say that there are no longer any spaces left at this event which demonstrates a clear demand for more events and initiatives such as this for our district’s senior residents.

“The Council became responsible for Community Planning in 2015 and this initiative is an excellent example of different agencies working together and using resources that will deliver health and safety benefits to the community.”
