Howell Backs Castlewellan Midwifery Services

Howell welcomes news that Midwifery services are to be reinstated in local GP surgery.

Councillor Roisin Howell has back local Castlewellan mothers who were distressed at the possible removal of their maternity services and having to travel to Newcastle.

Sinn Féin Cllr Roisin Howell has welcomed news that midwifery services are to be reinstated at Castlewellan GP surgery.

The Castlewellan Cllr said: “This news that services will once again take place in Castlewellan will no doubt be welcomed by local expecting mothers.

“After talking to multiple expecting mothers in the Castlewellan they expressed their deep anger when these vital services were transferred forcing them to attend clinics in Newcastle instead.

“This had caused a major inconvenience and for some an added expense.

“Local drop-in Midwifery clinics are a vital part of the ante-natal care prior to birth and play a pivotal part in ensuring the best health care can be offered to expectant mums and babies.”
