Honeycomb Is County Down’s Favourite Ice Cream

In celebration of National Ice Cream Month this July, Mullins Ice Cream took to the streets here to find out which flavours tickle Northern Ireland’s taste buds. The results prove that County Down residents are a super sweet bunch, with a landslide victory for indulgent Mullins Honeycomb taking the top spot!

Mullins Honeycomb Ice Cream is popular in County Down.

The survey of ice-cream lovers from across Northern Ireland showed that favourite flavours varied from county to county. Counties Armagh and Derry~Londonderry have a taste for decadent chocolate, whilst County Antrim and County Down ice-cream lovers prefer to scoop up Honeycomb and Strawberry. The people of Tyrone fill up their freezers with Mint Chocolate Chip, as do those in County Fermanagh. Not so popular however was the cool classic Vanilla, which proved to be the least likely choice of flavour in Northern Ireland.

Nigel Cairns, Commercial Director Dale Farm Ice Cream said: “We believe that your choice of ice-cream says a lot about you. It’s clear from this research that Down are a county of Honeycombers, a sweet bunch, with a love for the finer things in life!

“Honeycomb has certainly been one of Mullins Ice Cream’s most popular lines for many years, however we were surprised to see such a difference in preference across our counties.”

“Whilst Mullins has a range of popular, classic flavours, innovation is always on the menu with exciting new flavours being whipped up every year to stay ahead of evolving trends. Some of our newest flavours include Lemon Meringue Pie and Blueberry Muffin Crumble – so it’s safe to say Honeycomb might meet some stiff competition in the future!”

For the month of July, Mullins has launched a Pop Up Ice Cream Parlour in Belfast’s Victoria Square. The limited-edition menu allows customers to enjoy their choice of Mullins ice-cream and toppings, served on top of a chunky chocolate cookie or sugar-dusted doughnut. Limitless flavour combinations and tantalising toppings, from candy floss and caramel popcorn to sea salt fudge and a range of biscuit crumbles, will top off the indulgent ice cream experience.
