Hillsborough Woman Walks To Support Ukraine Victims

86-year old Hillsborough woman walks 150Km to support Habitat for Humanities fundraiser for Ukraine

A Hillsborough senior citizen, Naomi Bustard (86) walked more than 150km over Lent, to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity’s Response to the War in Ukraine. xa0

Since the Ukranian conflict began, UNHCR estimates that almost 5 million people have fled from Ukraine to neighbouring countries with nothing but the clothes on their back and anything that they could carry with them.

Without a home to go to, many people are sheltering in tents at the borders of neighbouring countries.xa0xa0

As an organisation that builds homes, communities and hope, Habitat for Humanity, joins with the global community, in calling for an end to the violence that threatens all three.xa0xa0

Habitat for Humanity National Offices in Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia are supporting refugees fleeing Ukraine to find safety and shelter. This includes immediate emergency support in border camps and the longer term shelter needs in host communities.

Setting out on the final walk to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity’s support for the Ukranian victims is Hillsborough senior citizen Naomi Bustard (86) who completed more that 150Km.

A Hillsborough resident, 86-year-old Naomi Bustard, decided that she wanted to do something to raise funds and awareness for those forced to flee Ukraine. So over Lent, Naomi walked 5k every day to show her support and fundraise for Habitat’s response.xa0

As she finished her final walk on her 86thxa0birthday (Easter Monday) an emotional Naomi said: “I am overwhelmed by the generosity of the people I met on my walks around Hillsborough, and from others who donated because they heard about my walking to support Habitat’s response to war in Ukraine.”

Naomi, who isn’t online and who always saw the value of being able to offer the opportunity to give online, wants to thank all who supported in any way. She said: “It is so much appreciated. To date, I have raised an amazing £8,550 for the most vulnerable refugees fleeing Ukraine thanks to the generosity of many people far and wide.”
