Mr Hazzard said: “There are brilliant initiatives taking place in Mourne Forests, being managed by Outdoor Recreation, and I am pleased to say that the investment is bearing fruit, with in excess of 50,000 people using Mourne Mountain Bike Trails and similarly impressive numbers using the Castlewellan Pump Track and The Walk Trails. “Improvements are clear in many areas, evidenced by the recently constructed Children’s Play areas, which seamlessly blend into their wooded surroundings.xa0The marketing campaigns are of the highest standard, as are the strategic objectives.” “Overall the standard of work being carried means we are making genuine progress in harnessing the unrealised tourism potential of South Down. “The public can play their part in their efforts and I would like to echo their call for help from the public as part of the Mourne Forests Volunteer Scheme.
