SOUTH Down Sinn Féin MLA Chris Hazzard has called for the repair of an unsafe platform at a recently erected fishing pontoon on the Quoile river.

Mr.Hazzard said that the platform needed urgently repaired before a member of the public falls into the river.

He added: “I have written to both the department of Culture, Arts and Leisure, who erected the pontoon and to Down district council seeking the immediate repair of the railings around the platform. “Users of the river have been very positive about the xa0platform which was erected following representation from myself on behalf of local anglers who wanted the pontoon to remain following a film crew using it two years ago xa0in filming ‘Game of Thrones’. “However, a number of locals have brought it to my attention that the railings on part of the platform have fallen into disrepair, and is presenting a danger to pedestrians walking by the river, especially small children.”
