Groundbreaking Workshop Held For Downe Opthalmolgy Unit

The Opthalmology Department in the Downe Hospital has xa0hosted xa0a ground breaking workshop for nurses involved in cataract surgery, a first for Northern Ireland.

The phaco/cataract study day, co-ordinated by Sister Dolores Boyle, Theatre Manager at the Downe Hospital, was attended by 65 healthcare professionals from across the five hospitalxa0 Trusts and from the private sector.xa0 It was also attended by Dr Olivia Early, Consultant Opthalmologist, who heads the cataract surgery programme at the Downe.

xa0Sister Boyle said: “This is a great opportunity for nurses to upskill.xa0 We had very positive evaluations from staff who attended and it is hoped this will become a yearly event.”
