Green Mortgage Benefits For Home Buyers With AIB

New AIB mortgage supports ‘green’ homes

AIB has launched a new competitive mortgage offering for high energy rated homes. The ‘Green Mortgage’ offers a lower rate of interest for properties that have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating in bands A or B.

To launch its Green Mortgage and celebrate those who embrace energy efficiency at home, AIB has partnered with Trees on the Land, an initiative working to establish young native trees across the island of Ireland. For every Green Mortgage that is drawn down, AIB donates to the project who will in turn plant 10 trees in Northern Ireland.

The partnership forms part of the Bank’s overall sustainability strategy and is in recognition of the important contribution home energy efficiency can play in the pursuit of net zero carbon targets.

“As part of this new offering, we are delighted to partner with Trees on the Land who are who are helping to increase beneficial native tree cover in the Irish landscape.”

“Our latest AIB Sustainability Index reveals that now more than ever people are aware of the economic, social and environmental benefits of embracing sustainability.

“76% of people surveyed told us that sustainability is important to them in their daily lives and almost two thirds of respondents also recognised the important role that banks have to play in the fight against climate change.xa0

“This innovative product and partnership with Trees on the Land reflects these trends and the strong sustainability ethos we have at AIB.”

Discussing the benefits of ‘going green’ at home, AIB has recorded a special episode of its award-winning ‘Movies and Mortgages’ web-series, hosted by radio personality, Pete Snodden.

The episode features Eddie Weir, President of Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT) and Lesley McAteer a green homeowner and renewable energy champion who has been documenting her ‘green’ journey on social media, alongside AIB mortgage advisor, Craig Service.

Brian Gillan added; “The Movies and Mortgages web series is a great way to help viewers understand everything there is to know about the home buying and mortgage journey,” explains Adrian Moynihan. “In the Green Mortgages episode, we talk about how you can find out what your EPC rating is, and what improvements you can make around the house to boost your green credentials.”
