Damaging Of Graves An ‘Appalling Act’ says Councillor Valerie Harte.

Newry City Sinn Féin Councillor Valerie Harte has said that those involved in vandalising graves in Monkshill Cemetery in the City had caused huge distress to the families, relatives and friends of those plots they had attacked.xa0
The Newry Councillor said:xa0“The desecration of a grave is very distressing for any family.

“Those involved in this attack must be unreservedly condemned.

A graveyard in Newry became the attention of by vandals.

“Many grieving families find great comfort in visiting cemeteries. They are places of peace and reflection.

“Those responsible for these attacks need to be ashamed of themselves”.

Councillor Harte appealed for anyone with information that could identify the culprits who targeted the graves, to contact the PSNI.

She added: “To damage any grave is appalling and we expect that the Police will conduct a thorough investigation in a bid to bring those responsible before the courts.

“I would appeal to anyone with any information that could assist with the xa0investigation to contact local police.”
