Ian Wilson, chief executive of the Grand Opera House, said: “The Grand Opera House has been welcoming audiences for 122 years and our aim is for theatregoers to experience outstanding entertainment supported by the highest levels of customer service. This week the Theatre’s WorldHost Recognition Certificate was renewed for a second time, which reaffirms the Grand Opera House’s commitment to delivering superior service and a warm welcome to everyone.”

“The Grand Opera House last won the accolade of UK’s Most Welcoming Theatre two decades ago and it would be terrific to return the title to Northern Ireland in 2017.”

This year there are more than 175 venues competing in the UK Theatre Awards. 12 venues will be selected as regional winners, and one venue chosen as the overall national champion.

Julian Bird, chief executive of UK Theatre, said: “Most Welcoming Theatre is a chance for audiences to celebrate their local theatre and for venues to shout about the incredible work they are doing day in day out. Theatres are the backbone of communities across the country and this campaign highlights the vital work they do.”
