Avoid dangerous junction for now says local councillor
The blind junction at Strangford Road with Church Road at Dunsford should be avoided as a traffic mirror is missing which assisted drivers making a difficult right hand turn.
This dangerous junction has become even more dangerous with the traffic mirror now missing for the past couple of months.
Drivers merging into this blind junction coming along the Church Road towards Dunsford take their lives in their hands.
Two weeks ago I was driving to Bishopscourt when a car pulled out in front of me from Church Road at the junction at Curran’s Bar and restaurant at the junction and I thought it was just a case of a careless driver. Thankfully I was driving well within the 30mph limit and braked in good time as the driver reversed quickly back.
The mirror that was positioned on top of a pole at the Sheepland Road / Strangford Road junction facing Church Road is missing.
Two local residents too have complained to Down News about the danger in this part of the road, and the proprietor of Curran’s Bar said he too had been aware of it for around 10 weeks but no repairs have yet been forthcoming.
The road markings too at the Church Road junction are very worn and need re-painted.
Sinn Féin Councillor Philip Campbell said: “I would advise drivers not to use this junction especially doing a right hand turn from Church Road onto the Strangford Road at the Dunsford end.
“They should avoid this junction at all costs and drive back up to the Ballyhornan Road and turn back to the Tullyronan estate area. They need to go that extra mile to be safe.
“In the meantime work is on-going to try and resolve this difficult issue.”
Let’s hope this issue is resolved by the time the summer holidays end and the school runs start.
Signage too could also be improved with signs such as ‘blind junction’ and ‘slow’.
