Go ndeana Dia trocaire ar a anam.

We, as a club, are saddened to learn of the death of our former parish Priest and Club President, Father Patrick McVeigh.

Father Paddy as he was known affectionately, was a very thoughtful, kind hearted, totally sincere, loyal, holy man. He was a very keen gardener who loved to spend his spare time putting his green fingers to work in the front garden of the Parochial house. Many people will have their own special anecdotes about him. He will be remembered for many things by his former parishioners.

His ready wit, great wisdom and very approachable manner stood him in great stead in Lower Mourne and, I’m sure, the other parishes where he ministered. Each year, while he was President, he exhorted us on to greater efforts and usually ended his very witty speeches with the the same encouraging phrase ” It’s time to bring home the bacon” There is a wonderful phrase in the Irish language ” Ni fheicimid a leitheid aris ” which means we’ll never see his likes again. TYhis sums up how we as a Club feel about Father Paddy. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam uasail dhilis.
