Giants Do The Double On Danes With Champions League Next.

The Stena Line Belfast Giants made it two wins in as many nights over Herning Blue Fox of Denmark as their pre-season and Champions League preparations ended with a 6-3 victory in Belfast on Saturday.

The Giants followed up Friday’s solid showing in a 5-1 win with another stellar performance ahead of the Champions League campaign which begins this week with home games on Thursday and Saturday against the Czech Republic’s Liberec and Augsburger of Germany respectively. Shane Owen started in the Giants net, posting 24 saves, with the Giants icing a full line up.

Two goals in the opening period got the Giants off to the best possible start. First, Ben Lake struck midway through the period at 10:36 before Jesse Forsberg extended the lead at 13:44.

Herning hit back early in the middle period when Morten Poulsen slotted past Shane Owen at 25:19. Liam Reddox posted his first of the night at 30:16, assisted by Pat Mullen and Liam Morgan, before the visitors pulled another back at 32:07 with Poulsen’s second of the game.

Liam Reddox then netted his and the Giants second of the period at 35:53, assisted by Bobby Farnham and Curtis Leonard, before completing his hat-trick at 38:20, assisted by Pat Mullen and Curtis Leonard. However Herning struck almost immediately with Cameron Brace’s fine solo goal at 38:26.

Belfast rounded off the scoring at 58:58 when Patryk Wronka finished off, assisted by Matt Pelech and Ben Lake.

What’s Up Next?
It’s the inaugural Champions Hockey League campaign for the Giants with two home games to start. First up is Liberec of the Czech Republic on Thursday 29th August before facing and Germany’s Augsburger Panther on Saturday 31st August.
