Get ready for the big community carnival in Downpatrick on Saturday 28 March.

The excitement is mounting as Down District Council looks forward to the Community Carnival which will take place in the Rathkeltair Car Park in Market Street, Downpatrick from 4pm – 8pm to mark the end of an era.

The event will celebrate the end of Down District Council after 42 years and has been organised to thank the local community for their support over the years. Free buses will visit Saintfield, Killyleagh, Ballynahinch, Newcastle, Castlewellan, Clough, Strangford and Ardglass to pick up residents in time for the start of the event and drop everyone home once it is over. Look out for details of pick up locations and times in next week’s press.

Speaking about the spectacular event, Councillor William Walker, Chairman of Down District Council said: “This is an opportunity for the community to come together one last time and celebrate 42 years of Down District Council in an atmosphere of fun. It is pleasing to see the end of an era being celebrated with a free community event which will appeal to all ages and I hope that as many of our residents as possible will come along to join us.”

All the fun of the fair will include kids train rides, inflatables, dodgems, Miami thrill ride, balloon modelling, face painting, stilt walkers. The carnival atmosphere will be enhanced with music from The Just Adam Band. Down County Museum will be hosting the ‘Good Old Days’ Marquee displaying old photographs and by-gone toys that will no doubt bring back happy memories.

The event finale is an impressive fireworks display at 7.45pm as Down District Council literally goes out with a bang!
