Gaelic Club Notes For Sunday 1st October 2023

Bright GAC.

Congratulations to our Under 14 girls championship result.

The U 14 girls entered their bid for Championship at the weekend with a game at home against St Peter’s Warrenpoint.

Having faced St Peter’s 2 weeks ago in the league the girls knew they needed to up their game. Going in as under dogs they had nothing to lose but they came away victorious keeping them in the championship.

Going into the second half with both teams being level meant everyone had something to play for.

St Peter’s  took the lead quickly but the Bright girls fought back. Scoring a goal with 5 mins to go put Bright back in front.

Strong performances from Skye Gracey and Emma McQuoid meant that when the final whistle blew Bright were a point ahead on the scoreboard.

Well done girls and the management teram.

Congratulations to our club referee and former player Oliver Burke on his Council award. This is well deserved for all his outstanding voluntary work with local young people in our area over many years

This years club AGM will take place on Wednesday 18th October in Bright Community Centre at 7.30pm.

The club welcomes members old and new and anyone who wishes to get involved in any capacity.

Congratulations to our U13 boys and management who were could the U13 Shield Champions on Saturday afternoon. Full time: St John’s 1.6 – 1.1 Castlewellan. Well done lads, it was a brilliant game of football, enjoy the celebrations.

Our Senior ladies secured their spot in the Intermediate A Football Championship Final after a tough game against Saul. The Johnnies were in cruise control staying infront in the first half after Brea McKee got the opening score with a cracker goal.

Coming close to the end of the second half, goal keeper McCann stopped a certain goal which resulted in her sustaining a concussion. Second half commenced with St John’s getting the opening score but Saul quickly responded with a fast play up the field and got a goal themselves.
