Match Report.

Ard Ghlais CLG 4-17 Cumann an Phiarsaigh 1-12

Patrick Pearses from North Belfast visited Ardtole Memorial Park on Sunday morning for a challenge game played in glorious spring sunshine.

Ardglass started the brightest shooting towards the Chapel Hill, however, the shooting was somewhat erratic and they amassed several wides.

Ardglass proved too strong for the visitors Cumann na Phiarsaigh. (Ardglass GAC photos by : Ted Murphy).

Ardglass were dominating in the middle third and scoreboard soon begin ticking over and when C O’Shea and S Carr found the net in quick succession the game seemed to be over. However, Pearses rallied with and gained a foothold scoring 1-3 without reply.

The home side regained control around centre-field and the marauding C Mahon scored after a fine move to end the half.

Ardglass continued to dominate the scoreboard in the second half and when the youthful duo of E McMullan and P O’Shea scored a  point and a goal in the 45th minute the lead became insurmountable for the visitors and Ardglass ran out winners.

Ardglass missed a number of shots at goals with wides in this early season clash at the Ardtole pitch.

The Scór Sinsir County final took place on Sunday afternoon in Castlewellan. Our club was represented in two disciplines.

Cormac Nellis was our competitor in solo singing. He performed his version of “The town I loved so well”, which was outstanding. Unfortunately, Cormac didn’t win a place in the Ulster semi final on this occasion, but we are very proud to have him representing our club and we will be sure to see him perform again next year.

Cormac’s mother Kay Nellis took to the stage for her first ever performance in Scór, representing the club in the recitation section. Kay delivered a truly heartfelt performance of a poem that she wrote herself titled “Two mothers remembered”. There were a lot of tears in the audience as Kay told her story with real sincerity. We hope to see Kay back on stage next year with some new material.

Scór Sinsir entrants Cormac Nellis and Kay Ellis with Club Chairman Gary McGreevy.

Everyone is very proud of both our competitors, big thanks to them for representing our club. Thank you also to everyone who came to support our acts.

Best of luck to all those acts who made it through to the Ulster Semi- Final.
