Ardglass GAC Club Notes
Cahir’s Marathon Effort for Children’s Heartbeat Trust
Congratulations to our Senior footballer Mark Cahir, who completed an incredible 12 marathons in 9 months in aid of the Children’s Heartbeat Trust and in honour of his nephew, Shea Martin writes Jack O’Shea.
Mark began and finished his final marathon at Ardtole on Saturday morning, supported along the way by club members and his running club, Crossgar Harriers.
The final kilometre was particularly special, as 40 juvenile players from Ardglass jogged with Mark into Ardtole Memorial Park to rapturous applause from friends and family.
A huge thank you to all who donated and supported our Big Breakfast Fundraiser on Saturday morning. Special thanks go to Gerard Sands at Ardglass Golf Club and the Ardglass Eurospar Community Team for their generous contributions.

Ardglass 1-15 – East Belfast 2-6.
Promotion-chasing East Belfast arrived at Ardtole Memorial Park on Friday night needing a win to secure their rise to Division 3. Ardglass, keen to bounce back after a tough previous outing against Teconnaught, delivered one of their finest displays of the campaign to take the spoils.
Despite playing against a strong wind, Ardglass started brightly with scores from Conor Kearney and a brace from Caolain O’Shea. Though they dominated the opening twenty minutes, their scoreboard return didn’t reflect their control. East Belfast clawed their way into the game with a two-pointer and a free, and the sides were level at 0-5 apiece by half-time.
With the breeze at their backs, Ardglass upped the tempo in the second half. Caolain O’Shea again led the charge with a two-pointer, but East Belfast responded with a point and a goal to edge ahead. Jack O’Shea and Caolain O’Shea hit back with fine scores, though another goal for the visitors looked to tilt the tie in their favour.
However, Ardglass finished strongly. Caolain O’Shea and Stephen Rooney added two-pointers, and O’Shea tacked on two frees. The standout moment came when goalkeeper James Crangle joined a flowing move to punch in a goal at the back post—sealing a well-deserved win.

Despite the defeat, results elsewhere confirmed East Belfast’s promotion to Division 3 – congratulations to all at Henry Jones Fields.

G4MO Blitz Brings the Craic to Ardtole
The Ardglass Gaelic for Mothers & Others (G4MO) group hosted their annual blitz at Ardtole on Saturday afternoon, welcoming teams from Saul, Darragh Cross, and RGU Downpatrick. Glorious sunshine set the stage for a fantastic day of football, fun, and laughs shared among all four clubs.
A big thank you goes to everyone who helped organise food and refreshments and contributed to making the day such a success!
ABB U14s Hit Top Gear Against Aghaderg
The ABB U14 amalgamated boys team travelled to the Scarva Road to face Aghaderg last Wednesday. After two previous losses to the Reds this season, the lads were determined to reverse the trend. In a scrappy first half riddled with wides, ABB held a narrow 1-4 to 1-2 lead at the break.
The second half, however, was all ABB. They dominated across the pitch, scoring 4-5 without reply and putting on a clinical display.
They face St John’s after the July break in their final league game, still very much in the hunt for the league title.
Historic Hurling Blitz at Ardtole.
After five weeks of hurling coaching, Ardglass welcomed neighbours Saul GAC to Ardtole for a Go Games Hurling Blitz. Over 120 children from both clubs competed across U6.5, U8.5, and U10.5 age groups over 90 action-packed minutes—despite the summer showers.
It was a historic evening for Ardglass, with the club fielding hurlers for the first time in decades. Special thanks to Ulster GAA coach Danny Toner and Down GAA coach Fergal Rodgers for their coaching support over the past six weeks.
We are especially grateful to Saul GAC, The Social Slashers, and Shay Deegan for generously lending equipment to help us get up and running. Keep an eye on our social media pages for updates on coaching sessions resuming after the July break.xa0

GLASDRUMMAN GAC 5K RUN & WALK
Tuesday 12th August at 7.00pm Gates open 6pm. It starts at Glasdrumman Clubrooms, Quarter Road and registration is Online only. Our annual Golf Classic took place at Kilkeel Golf Club on Friday 4th July 2025 and a great day was had by all.

The committee, players and members of Glasdrumman GAC are deeply saddened to hear of the death of Gary Cunningham, father of our senior player Andrew McAllister.
We offer our sincere condolences to his sons Andrew and Christopher, his parents Christy and Pearl, his sister Sharon and brother Paul, his grandchildren and the entire family circle at this sad time. Thoughts and prayers are with you all.

St John’s GAC Drumanquoile Club Notes.
Our U10 girls team put in a fantastic performance at the blitz hosted by Ballymartin GAC this weekend.
From the first whistle to the last, the girls showed brilliant determination, great teamwork, and most importantly, a love for the game writes Laura Brennan.
Each player gave it their all across multiple matches, with strong defending, sharp passing, and some brilliant scores
A huge thank you to Ballymartin for hosting a well-run and enjoyable blitz, and to all the parents and supporters who cheered the girls on.
The progress this young team is making week by week is something special – the future is bright!

The U14 girls team put on a spirited display at the Pat Doyle Tournament hosted by Liatroim Fontenoys
In a competitive day of football, the girls started strong with impressive wins over Bryansford and Kilcoo B in the group stages.
Their teamwork, determination, and sharp attacking play saw them top their group and progress to the quarter-finals.
Unfortunately, their journey came to an end with a tough defeat against a strong Castlewellan side. Despite the result, the girls can hold their heads high after a fantastic effort throughout the tournament.
A big thank you to Liatroim GAA for hosting a well-organised and enjoyable day of football. Well done to all involved!

Among the many highlights was the return of Christina, who made her long-awaited return after more than a year out and surgery last October. She didn’t miss a beat, slotting home two brilliant goals in a standout comeback performance
A proud day for her, and a massive boost for the team.
