Further Scrutiny Of Dr Watt Welcomed By SDLP

Colin McGrath MLA welcomes further scrutiny of Dr Watt

SDLP Health Spokesperson Colin McGrath has welcomed the announcement of the independent Medical Practitioners Tribunal hearing into Dr Michael Watt.

South Down MLA Colin McGrath.

South Down MLA Mr McGrath said: “I welcome that the independent Medical Practitioners Tribunal hearing is now taking place. It should have taken place a long time ago.

“It is disappointing that patients have had to fight to get this far.

“There remain serious questions to answer and it is appropriate that they are now being looked at by the tribunal.

“The whole situation casts a long shadow over our health service and it’s important that lessons are learned so that nothing like this can ever take place again.

“However, we will be unable to fully move on until this case is properly examined and patients feel that their experiences have been heard and taken on board.

“This tribunal will not make up for the pain and suffering caused to so many, but it will help to bring closure and answers for those involved. My thoughts are with everybody affected.”
