A family fun day is set to help raise essential funds towards the £20,000 for treatment for a 3-year old Killyleagh girl with a serious epilepsy condition.

The family fun day takes place this Saturday 2nd December in the Bridge Centre in Killyleagh from 11-2pm.

Three year old Rachel Gribben from Killyleagh with her mum Kate Jennings will be all smiles on Saturday (2nd December) as the community rallies round to continue the fundraising campaign to raise £20,000 for a special treatment for her epilepsy condition.

Rachel suffers from a condition called Focal Cortical Dysphasia and requires specialist brain surgery. Her mum Kate said: “Rachel can have up to eight seizures each day. She is very brave, but the treatment is necessary to prevent any deterioration in her condition which would affect her development.

“The surgery planned is in Kviv in western Ukraine. A specialist neurosurgeon from the United States goes there once a year and performs a number of operations. So we plan to get there and go through this medical procedure.

“This won’t cure Rachel’s epilepsy but will make it more manageable and stop the regression. People in Killyleagh and further afield have been absolutely tremendous and we hope to raise further funds necessary for this trip.

“So far people have been very generous and we are so thankful for this. We plan to have a family fundraising fun day at the Bridge Centre in Killyleagh and the entry per family is £5. It will go a long way to helping Rachel get this much-needed operation.

“We are one third of the way there already to our target. We’ve fundraised £6500 so far and I have a £1000 cheque to lodge. We are so grateful for this.

“Anyone can donate whatever they want on the Just Giving page we have set up. All donations will be very much welcomed.”
