Fountain Foodbank Gets Donation From SERC Students

SERC Students’ Union Deliver Foodbank Donation.

The weather outside was frightful but nothing was going to stop a delivery to Fountain Foodbank in Downpatrick this week from SERC’s Students’ Union.

Students and staff at SERC’s Downpatrick Campus donated food collected at the College for distribution by Fountain Foodbank in the town.   (L – R) Fountain Food Bank Volunteer Coordinator Shirley Lennon with fellow volunteers Denise Higgins and Marian Magee,  and from SERC, Anna Leahy, Mollie Richardson, Students’ Union Governor  and Ross Currie.

The call went out to students for donations for Fountain Foodbank and a collection point was set up in the College.  Anna Leahy, Student Engagement Officer, said, “We were delighted with the response and want to thank everyone who helped us collectively to donate to Fountain Food Bank at this time of year which is proving difficult for many people in our community.   Special thanks also to Poundland and Quinn’s Spar, on Saul Street who helped us with donations.

Shirley Lennon, Volunteer Coordinator at Fountain Foodbank said, “We would like to thank SERC Students’ Union for organising the collection and for all the students and staff at the College who donated.  It is a sign of the very positive action from young people here in our community for which we are grateful.

She added, “The donations will go towards making 200 festive food parcels for local people and families.   We are a cross community group who work with many partner groups including Society of St Vincent de Paul, Simon Community, Down Rural Community Network and local GPs and many more who refer clients for support.

Shirly concluded, “Anyone wishing to donate to the Foodbank or to find out how they can be referred for support can visit:
