Food Village Rows Into Skiffie Festival

The Strangford Skiffie Festival 2018 will see lots of local and international rowing teams take to Strangford Lough for a third consecutive year at Delamont County Park from 27-29 July.

Visitors and competitors alike will be fed and watered by an array of Northern Irish food and drinks offerings. This year, event organisers have pulled together an exciting range of mouth-watering culinary treats and the best in local beverages, to put in place the ideal pitstop.

Visitors will be able to avail of a wide selection including delicious beef and venison burgers from nearby Pheasants Hill Farm Kitchen, tantalising traybakes from Castlewellan based company, The Fancy Fox and drinks from local brands such as Short Cross Gin and Kilmegan Cider.

From pizzas, pittas, donuts, crepes and more, there is no shortage of options for event goers during this action-packed weekend. Spectators can take in the breath-taking views of Strangford Lough right from the event base  on the shore at Delamont County Park, all whilst enjoying the extensive food village.

Councillor Mark Murnin, Chairman of Newry, Mourne and Down Council said: ‘Skiffie Festival is such a vibrant event in our Giant Adventures programme. Having local food producers and suppliers on board adds more homegrown flavour to the weekend.

“We are delighted to have such a variety of companies at the event, showing local and international visitors what Northern Irish food and drink is all about. Skiffie Festival provide an ideal platform to maintain the huge interest in local food and drink.”

Skiffie Festival marks the first of five events in the Giant Adventures summer programme, spearheaded by Newry Mourne and Down District Council.

Across the weekend of July 27-July 29 there will be around 20 races taking place, with teams competing from across the island of Ireland and Scotland.

Additionally, there will be boat trips, live music, model air craft displays, and much more.
