See how a member of the fairer sex set her sights on a theatrical career and seduced her way to stardom in this funny and colourful exploration of the rise of the actress.

Set in the courts, brothels and theatres of Restoration London, during a time where all performers on London’s stages were men Edward Kynaston – ‘Ned’ reigned supreme as the foremost interpreter of female roles. That is until Nell Gwynne, a favourite of King Charles II persuades her patron to allow women to act. Consequently Ned’s world is turned upside down while Nell’s has just started looking up.

masksWatch one woman engage in a war of the genders and carve the way for the Marilyn Monroes and the Audrey Hepburns using her feminine ways and royal connections while a 17th Century celebrity becomes a diva and loses his cool in this vibrant and energetic play.

This bold production that is set in the age of wit and satire has received much critical acclamation since its debut, reviewers such as Adam Somerset have said: “It captures the packed hurly-burly of seventeenth century London where performance and politics are not far apart. There is not a touring company this season that is its like”
