Egan thanks police after distressing Bangor firearms incident
Cordons have been reducedxa0in the High Street area of Bangor as police carry out investigative enquiries following a firearms incident.
It was reported that a man with a gun was in commercial premises just before 9.30pm on Sunday, 18th May.
Following a public safety operation, involving specialist officers, one man, aged in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of a number of offences including possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.
Shots were fired by these specialist teams and, as is normal procedure, the office of the Police Ombudsman has been informed.
No one was injured by these shots.
Enquiries are ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference 1763 of 18/5/25.

Alliance North Down MLA Connie Egan has thanked police for their hard work to keep people safe after a distressing firearms incident took place in the High Street area of Bangor late last night (18 May).
A man was detained at the scene and cordons currently remain in place on the street.
Ms Egan has said: “This is an extremely concerning incident which will have caused distress to many in Bangor.
“No one wants to see guns on our streets or threat of harm against anyone in our community.
“I want to thank the PSNI for their quick and diligent response during what has been a very stressful, challenging weekend for them.
“I’m sincerely grateful nobody’s been seriously injured, and that whoever’s responsible has been taken into the care of the appropriate authorities.
“I’ve been engaging with PSNI and will continue to do so as matters progress.”
Police had during and in the aftermath of the incident sent out a short message telling people to keep away from the incident area in Bangor.
