EO Seeks New Commissioner For Older People

Competition to appoint a new Commissioner for Older People In Northern Ireland now opened by the Executive Office (EO)

The Executive Office has today launched a competition to appoint a new Commissioner for Older People for Northern Ireland (COPNI).

Launching the competition, First Minister Michelle O’Neill said:xa0“It is vital we have a dedicated Commissioner for older people.

“The new Commissioner will play a pivotal role in ensuring we continue to safeguard and promote the rights of older people across our society.

Deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly said:xa0“We want to thank the outgoing commissioner, Eddie Lynch, for his work during his time in the rol.

“We look forward to appointing a new Commissioner who will continue to champion the interests of older people at the highest level and bring about real improvements in their lives.”

Retiring soon from his role as Commissioner: The outgoing Commissioner for Older People Eddie Lynch is stepping down after his 4-year stint and process for his replacement is now in place.

This post is a full-time appointment for a period of four years, with the possibility of one renewal for a further period of four years, subject to satisfactory performance.

The remuneration for the Commissioner will be in line with the Northern Ireland Senior Civil Service (SCS) (Pay Band 1 equivalent and within the range of £79,237 to £88,908 per annum).

Remuneration on appointment will normally be at the minimum of the range. Eligibility for annual pay uplifts will be dependent on satisfactory performance, in line with that same NICS SCS Pay Scale.

The post is pensionable. The Commissioner will be required to travel extensively within the jurisdiction, and on occasion, more widely within the UK, Ireland, Europe and further afield.

Reasonable travel and subsistence expenses incurred will be paid at Northern Ireland Civil Service rates. Commuting to and from office is not paid.
