Enjoy A Treat At Ellie’s Artisan Takeaway

Ellie’s Artisan Takeaway located at the Down Business Centre is now open for business.

Ellie Coburn, from near Castleward at Strangford, has set up a new food business based at the Down Business Centre just off the Belfast Road in Downpatrick.

Providing a range of tasty home made eats from Ellie’s Artisan Takeaway, Ellie enjoys her new lease of life after being furloughed for months in her previous job in a restaurant in Belfast. She decided to take the bit between her teeth and set up her own food business in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic ongoing since early in 2020.

Ellie said: “I am a qualified pastry chef and have worked in top restaurants in Belfast. However, when Covid-19 appeared, staff were furloughed and after a few months of this uncertainty, I decided to set up my own business as the way forward for me.

“Initially, I set up as Hare’s Cottage Bakery baking a range of products from home including cakes for special occasions and we got great feedback on the Facebook and Instagram pages. But now I’ve integrated this baking part of the business with Ellie’s Artisan Takeway (EAT). I’m delighted that it is all now going really well.

“I have a varied menu to suit different tastes and have everything from sodas, paninis, wraps, filled toasted baps, salad boxes, home made sausage rolls, and full sodas. We also do a range of hot beverages such as different coffees, hot chocolate, tea, herbal tea, and cold beverages include water, mineral cans, and iced coffee. The protein smoothies are very popular.

“Also, I am trained in food nutrition and can produce gluten-free foods for dietary requirements such as tray bakes to order.

“At the moment I am basically running a lighter summer menu. In the colder months I’ll be doing other foods such as soups and wheaten made with Guinness.

“I do cakes for occasions and deliver these to the local area around Downpatrick. Also I can do food for business meetings and social functions to order eg sandwich platters.

“I’m happy to give anyone a quote for food for a special meeting or occasion. Just give me a ring.”

Ellie explained that they now have a bench and table and chairs so customers can sit outside and enjoy their food if they are just passing by.

Opening hours for Ellie’s Artisan Takeaway are from 8am to 3pm Monday to Friday and Saturday from 9-11.30am.
