Bodie’s Barista Officially Opened at SERC for Term Time Coffee.

Downpatrick’s best kept secret was officially opened this week with Bodies Barista added to the choice of places to enjoy a coffee at South Eastern Regional College during term time.

Level 4 Provision of Hospitality Management students and entrepreneurs involved in the Bodie’s Barista venture at SERC: Seamus Rooney, Dillon Morgan, Gemma Tumelty and Eamon Ferris.

Bodie’s Barista, named in memory of the late Geraldine Boden, was officially opened by her family.  Geraldine worked at the College as part of the enterprise team.    The coffee shop, managed by catering and hospitality students supported by staff, is operated as an enterprise and will be open from the middle of September

Speaking at the event, Michelle McCarthy, Lecturer in Hospitality, friend and colleague of Geraldine, acknowledged that the day, filled with emotion, was a very happy occasion. “We all miss Geraldine, but she would be thrilled to see the students getting on so well with this new venture.

“The students are learning how a real coffee shop business works as part of their everyday course and will have these skills under their belts before they even finish their programme at SERC.”

Bodie’s Barista will be open to the public from mid-September, serving freshly brewed coffee and treats from 10am to 11.30am.
