Pictured at the recent ‘Inaugural All Island Emergency Medicine Conference’ is Mr Sean McGovern, Consultant and Clinical Director Emergency Medicine with the South Eastern HSC Trust, NI Health Minister Edwin Poots, Hugh McCaughey, Trust Chief Executive, and Dr Michael McBride, Chief Medical Officer with DHSSPSNI.

The conference was attended by over 85 delegates and the Health Minister made the opening remarks. Also in attendance were the Chief Medical Officer, Michael McBride and President of the College of Emergency Medicine in the United Kingdom, Dr Mike Clancy, along with the Vice President of the College of Emergency Medicine, Dr Taj Hassan.

The theme of the conference was ‘Quality’ and it is hoped that a consensus statement can be developed regarding this. The conference also highlighted the need for joined up thinking in relation to emergency medicine training across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. It is hoped this will help develop opportunities for further research in this area.
