EDAC runners do the Spar Craic St Patrick’s Day 10K

Early on St Patrick’s Day morning over 4000 runners made their way to Belfast City Centre for the 15th running of the Spar Craic 10k.

This event attracts runners of all abilities and is now a staple of the St Patrick’s Day festivities in Belfast writes Martin Willcox.

The race started at 9.00am sharp on Chichester Street outside the City Hall, then made its way across town taking in Queen Street, Falls Road, Dublin road, Botanic Gardens and finishing in Ormeau Park with the last 2.75 Km within the park.

With conditions cool and damp but dry, the City centre was buzzing with anticipation for the start gun to sound.

EDAC had four young ladies taking on this 10k, hoping for a good time on this fast flat course.

From the gun Caroline MacNabb went for the front, and fought her way through the big crowd to finish in 109th position, the 9th female overall in a time of 39 min 03 secs.

This was a great result for Caroline against a very strong field.

Next red and yellow vest to cross the line was Niamh Kellet who put in a determined run in 271st position in 41 min 49 secs.

Deirdie Weatherall was next to finish, and enjoyed the whole event coming in 419th spot clocking 44 min 05 sec.

Sharon Madine who had a PB at this race last year was looking for a solid run and only just back from an injury and a cold was happy with her time of 45 min 48 sec in 563rd position.

A great girls’ day out for the East Down Ladies, and well done to all runners at this very popular event.
