DOWN’S RECORD IN ALL IRELAND CAMOGIE CHAMPIONSHIPS

Down contested the final of the All-Ireland Senior Camogie Championship in 1948, having beaten Galway 1-5 to 1-1 in the All Ireland Semi-Final.  K Mallon was Captain, P Dooey was their best player and 13-year-old Berna Kelly played in goals. However, they were defeated by Dublin 11-4 to 4-2.  Down did go on to win the following: *   In 1968 Down won the inaugural All Ireland Junior Championship beating Cork 2-3 to 1-1. The team was N McKenna, P McGrady, R McCann, E Coulter, N Sands, R Walsh, M Caldwell, B Sands, C Reid, P Crangle, AM Kelly, E Turley. *   In 1974 Down won the inaugural Minor (U16) Championship again beating Cork 3-0 to 0-1. *   In 1976 Down again won the All Ireland Junior Championship beating Wexford 3-4 to 3-3. *   In 1991 Down recorded their third win in the All Ireland Junior Championship beating Tipperary 3-13 to 2-14.  The team were Teresa Allen, Veronica McGreevy, Laura O’Prey, Anne Coyle (Capt), Bridgeen Sands, Valerie Hynds, Colleen Hynds, Pauline Greene, Fiona Rice, Isobel Oakes, Nuala McCartan, Bernadette Kelly, Maureen McCartan, Maureen McAleenan, Noreen O’Prey, Donna Greeran, Margaret McNab, Collette Lambe, Dolores Smyth, Deirdre Savage. *   In 1998 Down won the All Ireland Intermediate Championship beating Cork 1-12 to 1-8. *   In 2006 Down were All Ireland Minor B Championship winners beating Antrim 5-8 to 6-4. *   In 2011 Down won the All Ireland U16C Championship beating Carlow 1-3 to 1-2.]]>
