The Downpatrick Regeneration Working Group brightens up The Grove in Downpatrick with a selection of plants and shrubs
The Grove in Downpatrick in the shadow of the historic Down Cathedral, the resting place of St Patrick, is a popular spot in the town for visitors and people to relax and chill out.
The Downpatrick Regeneration Working Group held a community planting day under the auspices of Barry Craig, landscape architect.

Barry explained that the plants were supplied by Bryne’s nursery on the Ballydugan Road.
He said: “We put out a call for some volunteers to give us a hand with the planting and tidying up. Some areas were in need of maintenance.
“Altogether we planted around 80 plants with some specimen shrubs. Basically it is an informal planting around mainly the bases of some trees.
“We have done some mulching covering up the ground with bark to suppress the weeds. And we have included a couple of paths that snake their way uphill at a comfortable angle for those who find going up hills more difficult.”
