South Down MLA disgusted by racist and sectarian graffiti

Patrick Brown MLA has condemned sectarian and racist graffiti found on public property and a family home in the Mount Crescent area of Downpatrick.

Brown, who was alerted to the graffiti by a local resident reported it to the PSNI who are treating it as a hate crime.

Graffiti on the wall leading down to St Patrick’s Square.

He said: “I am disgusted to see this racist and sectarian graffiti. While the majority of it was found on public property, which I have asked the Council to clean up, some of it was on a family home.

“To target a family is sickening and won’t be tolerated.”

“Given the nature of what was written, the police have assured me they are treating it as a hate crime and I appeal to anyone that has any information to get in touch with them by phoning 101.”

“This incident is in no way reflective of the welcoming people of Downpatrick who are welcoming and has no place in our town.”

“I want to thank members of the Neighbourhood Policing Team for calling out to the family to reassure them and letting them know the incident will get the attention it deserves.”
