After a bad run Downpatrick went to league leaders Woodvale on Friday night and they started the game playing into a strong wind. But they were quickly out of the blocks and pressed and harried the Woodvale players giving them no time on the ball.

Downpatrick got their reward when Corey McCoubrey won the ball on the edge of the box and crossed to Declan Looney to get between the two centre halves to volley home and put his side in front. A lapse in concentration allowed Woodvale to equalise within two minutes to level the game.

After 25 minutes Declan Looney was replaced by James Peacock, and just like Looney never stopped and a few minutes later he got on the end of a cross from Andrew McCoubrey to tap the ball into the Woodvale net.

It was all hands on deck after this as Woodvale pressed a resolute Downpatrick defence that was equal to everything Woodvale threw at them, with Ryan Cassidy, Caolain Logue, Thomas Fitzsimmons and Adam Jervis keeping them at bay and seeing the game out for an important victory.
