Danske Bank sets up temporary banking service in Downpatrick in Irish Street

Danske Bank’s branch on Market Street in Downpatrick remains closed for a period of refurbishment due to extensive damage caused by the recent flooding.

In a move to support local customers, the Bank has set up an interim banking service at the old Citizens Advice Bureau office in the town at the bottom of Irish Street at the traffic lights.

This is located on the 1st floor at 8-10 Irish Street. The service will operate 10am – 4pm Monday to Friday and will open over lunchtime. It begins today (Wednesday 15th November).

Personal and small business customers will be able to lodge cheques, pay bills by cheque, get assistance to transfer money to other accounts or make online payments, get assistance with any card issues or help to register for online banking, register a bereavement, get help with fraud queries or register a vulnerability.

Staff will be on hand to help with any other general queries.

The interim Danske Bank premises will not be able to facilitate cash lodgements or withdrawals, which can be done through the Post Office network or by visiting an alternative Danske Bank branch such as those based in Saintfield, Lisburn or Banbridge.

Aisling Press, Managing Director of Personal Banking at Danske Bank, said: “The main issue for us is to have an interim physical presence in the town where customers can call in and have any queries answered face-to-face.

“Our people will be on hand across the week to offer assistance and guidance. We have also set up a dedicated flood helpline for anyone affected who would prefer to talk to us on the phone – 02890 049260.

The water has been pumped out of the centre of Downpatrick, but a trail of devastation remains. The Danske Bank was flooded and it will re-open in December once refitted.

“We are working hard to get the external cash machines at our Market Street premises operational again so they can facilitate cash lodgements and cash withdrawals, including Euros.

“I am hopeful they will be operational by this weekend. We appreciate customers’ understanding during this challenging time.”

With the interim premises up and running, the Danske Bank team will be working hard to have the original branch at Market Street back refurbished and fully operational in December.
