Downpatrick And Saintfield Libraries Set For Book Week NI

Crime fiction and creative adventures come to Downpatrick and Saintfield for Book Week NI

Libraries in Downpatrick and Saintfield are welcoming authors and creative talent this week as part of Book Week NI, running from 19–25 October 2026.

Joe McCoubrey, crime and thriller writer based in Downpatrick will be giving a talk at Downpatrick Library during Book Week.

The annual celebration, a joint initiative between Libraries NI and BBC Northern Ireland, features a programme of events for readers, families and aspiring young artists.

On Tuesday 20 October at 6.30pm, Downpatrick Library will welcome local bestselling crime writer Joe McCoubrey.

The Downpatrick-based author will discuss his popular Quinn and Mike Devon crime series, sharing the inspiration behind his stories, how he creates his characters and what draws him to the darker side of fiction.

Everyone is welcome to attend.

On Saturday 24th October at 11am, Saintfield Library will host a special children’s book-themed art workshop with artist Sarah Majury.

Children aged 5–11 will have the opportunity to explore the fascinating world of moths, design their own Observer’s book cover and contribute artwork to a collaborative concertina book linked to Sarah’s exhibition at the library.

Booking is essential for the art workshop, and children must be accompanied by an adult.
