Over 80 boys and girls from Dundrum, Ballykinlar, Crossgar, Killyleagh, Ardglass, Killough and Downpatrick came together, on the last day of January, to participate in the Down Policing & Community Safety Partnership (PCSP)’s five-week sports’ mixer programme.

PCSP Chairman Cllr William Dick said: “The free initiative was developed to combat rural isolation and give young people in such areas an opportunity to meet new friends and enhance social inclusion.”

Ballymote Sports and Wellbeing Centre in Downpatrick played host to the first of the five evenings with the young people participating in football whilst receiving guidance from ASCERT on the negative effects of alcohol.

The remainder of the Project gives the participants an opportunity to sample various sporting activities which are being facilitated by Grassroots Football, Crossfit Downpatrick, Mourne Archery Centre and East Down Boxing Club.

Future sessions will ‘mix’ the aforementioned sports with vital information on Personal Safety and Bullying/Cyberbullying.
