Provision of Down Community Radio Across Downpatrick in run up to St Patrick’s Day will add to festive spirit

Downpatrick SDLP Councillor Conor Galbraith has welcomed confirmation that the PA system across Downpatrick will broadcast Down Community Radio in the run up to St Patrick’s Day.

He said it will generate an important sense of community.

The Cllr Galbraith added: “I am delighted to confirm that in the run up to St Patrick’s Day, that the town’s PA system will be handed over to Down Community Radio to create a vibrant setting for our town’s celebrations. and

“It will generate some much needed sense of community in the run up to what is arguably the biggest day in the calendar for Downpatrick.

(l-r) Cllr Conor Galbraith, DJ Gareth McDowell and FM 105 Producer/Editor Colin McAlinden ready to rumble on St Patrick’s Day on FM 105.

“Having worked alongside Dr Tim Campbell in the St Patrick Centre and Down Community Radio I am looking forward to listening to FM 105 in the centre of Downpatrick.

“This will also be an opportunity to advertise what is happening in Downpatrick with a live broadcast being provided by the radio station.

“We have seen in the past how utilising community radio can become a real mainstay on such community events, as has been done in West Belfast during Féile an Phobail, and in the Mourne area with FuseFM.

“In the wake of the tragic flooding incident in November it is important that we generate as much positive community spirit as possible.

“This is an opportunity to celebrate together as a community and to sell all that our town has to offer as the final resting place of Ireland’s Patron Saint.

“Therefore I would encourage as many people as possible to get their radios tuned in to 105fm in the run up to St Patrick’s Day and take part in this great community initiative.”
