Kilkeel area Councillor Sean Doran (Sinn Féin) has condemned those responsible for smashing a window of St.Colman’s RC chapel at the Massforth area of Kilkeelxa0on Fridayxa0night.
Cllr Doran said:xa0“What took placexa0on Fridayxa0evening is an absolute disgrace and I want to condemn those responsible for breaking the large stained glass window of the chapel. The criminals involved used a brick and a statue to cause thousands of pounds worth of damage. This incident comes just three months after another statue was damaged at the grange chapel.
“This is becoming a worrying trend and I am concerned that these attacks could be connected. All places of worship should be treated with respect and I’m sure the whole community of the Mournes will be disgusted with this act of wanton vandalism.
“I would ask anyone with any information to bring it forward and for the public to remain vigilant of suspicious activity in the future. Hopefully we will not see a repeat of this type of blatant sectarian incident.”
