Doran Calls For Calm In Annalong

Mournes Councillor Sean Doran (Sinn Féin) has called for a de-escalation of community tensions in Annalong.

dn_screenCouncillor Doran has expressed concern about a rise in community tensions in the Annalong area throughout the last number of months and has called for all sides to remain calm.

He said: “I recently met with a number of people from both sides of the community in Annalong who are very concerned about assaults and rising tensions in the area which have occurred in the last number of months, the most recent occurring just last weekend.

“Annalong has come a long way in the last few years with community relations in the area greatly improved and it is a great credit to everyone who has worked hard to achieve this. Unfortunately, there seems to be an element in the area who are determined to undermine all this good work by trying to create sectarian tensions.

“I would ask the whole community of Annalong to be vigilant in the next few weeks and not to let their children be drawn into any sort of conflict. I will also be contacting the PSNI and asking them to put more patrols in the area to deal with this worrying situation before someone is seriously injured and to help improve community confidence throughout Annalong.”
