Dolmens Climate Action Group Plan Summer Activities

Come along and enjoy a climate of hope

Come along and enjoy a climate of hope

As we become ever more impacted by Climate Change in our everyday lives, more and more people are asking what it will mean and what they can do?

Tara Haughian, Season Coordinator for the Dolmens Climate Action Group said: “A group of local people from around Newcastle have got together to help explore these questions and to inspire local responses. The questions range from energy efficiency to soil health and food growing and repairing goods.

“During the summer months, the Dolmens Network has planned a series of fun events to help people to explore what responses are necessary and possible.”

Tara outlined some of the activities coming up soon. She said: “We have put together a programme of locally-based activities that will help anyone curious about climate change or the environment to get into the conversation and link up with others who are also working out what they can do.

Join local celebrated chef, Paul Cunningham, on a foodie journey into climate change.

“We have sessions on food, foraging, growing, learning about biodiversity in our countryside, energy efficiency and energy technologies in the home.

“We will have a repair cafe where you bring your old damaged goods along and a group of volunteer fixers will have a go at repairing them. We have a film series where we will look at why we need to pay attention to our soil, and a look at the question of climate justice.

“A unique element of this summer season of events is that local people have designed and organised each experience. That brings a great variety of flavours to the events – you can expect something different at every one.

Come along and enjoy a foraging session. (Booking essential, see facebook page.)

Mary McAnulty, a local Climate Network member, has led the design of the first event taking place on Wenesday 25 May. Mary said: “I am very excited by this very unique opportunity to walk in our beautiful local landscape with celebrated chef Paul Cunningham.

“We will have the chance to forage naturally growing ingredients to add to a creative meal. Spaces are limited though, so I’d advise everyone to book now.”

All the information is available on our Facebook page @dolmensCAN where you will be able to book your place for any of the events.

The programme is supported by the Community Fund.
