Local SDLP Councillor Laura Devlin has spoken to Council officials urging progress in respect of the legacy sports fund.

Councillor Devlin said: “A £250,000 legacy fund was announced in February of this year to allow sports clubs in Down District to access further capital and develop their sporting provision.

“This legacy scheme was the cornerstone of SDLP policy this year and I am keen to ensure that all schemes go ahead. These Clubs must receive their money before the winding up of Down Council when it amalgamates with Newry and Mourne.

“This scheme itself was very innovative and ensured that many Clubs, which had over the years got very little, were made a priority. However in recent days one club in particular has reported delays.xa0 I have made representations with a view to moving matters forward.xa0 I am confident that any minor glitches are now being addressed,” said Laura Devlin.
