A Newry Mourne and Down District Council DUP Councillor is fuming after the erection of republican memorial in Leitrim.
DUP Slieve Croob Councillor Garth Craig said: “I utterly condemn this blatant attempt by Republicans to stir up divisions within the local community by the erection of this memorial.
“It is a deliberate attempt to alienate the Unionist community, many of whom have resided in the area for many generations. This is a shared space, but those responsible for placing the memorial are obviously interested in community relations, but only in promoting the Republican agenda.
“I call on those responsible to remove this memorial from this public space.
“I am waiting for a reply as to whether planning permission was granted for this from Council.”
