Sinn Féin Councillor Willie Clarke has urged tourism business’s to sign up to a new Green Tourism Initiative managed by BTS in partnership with Green Tourism, on behalf of Ards, Banbridge, Down and Newry  and Mourne Councils.

Cllr Clarke said: “Green tourism is all about attracting visitors who put a value on destinations, hotels and B&Bs, restaurants, cafes and activities which are clearly committed to operating in an environmentally and sustainable way. It is essential that we use every opportunity we have to promote our tourism product, we now have a unique programme, to develop the Mourne Mountains & Ring of Gullion and Strangford Lough region as a ‘green’ visitor destination.

“The initiative is limited to 100 tourism businesses and service providers the Green Tourism Project will direct, mentor and work with the businesses selected in a series of local workshops in preparation for assessment by project partner Green Tourism.”

“A significant marketing campaign will boost the profile of the region as a green tourism destination, and businesses who sign up to the scheme will reap the benefits of this campaign, at absolutely No Cost to the Business,” added Cllr Clarke.
