Independent Councillor Patrick Clarke has welcomed Newry Mourne and Down District Council appointing a new contractor to carry out remaining repairs to the sea wall defences at Green Banks in Dundrum. The outstanding repairs will be completed at the Green Banks area near Main Street in Dundrum within the coming weeks.

He said: “Some time ago the former Down District Council recently agreed to carry out emergency repairs and maintenance to part of the sea defence walls at Green banks, but due to this work not being fully completed, further damage had been caused.xa0I am now pleased and welcome the repairs using most of the original stonework.

“However, repairs will not extend to the sea wall defences facing Murlough Bay Court apartments which are all private properties, as Council holds no ownership interest in the lands or the sea wall to the rear of Murlough Bay Court.

“This work will be hopefully complete within the coming weeks.”
