Council Celebratory Carnival Coming To Downpatrick On Saturday 28th March

Appreciating that local residents were the reason for Down District Council’s existence,  Council officials  thought it only fitting that after 42 year’s service to its community, the Council should be the main focus of the closing celebrations.

To thank the local residents for their loyal support over the years a free, family carnival will now take place on Saturday 28 March, 2015 in the Lower Market Street Car Park, Downpatrick.

There will be something for everyone included in the Carnival with music from the Just Adam Band, balloon modelling, face painting, stilt walkers and all the fun of the fair with bumper cars, Magic Carpet and even a staggering 47 metre big wheel.

For those less adventurous amongst us there are more sedate opportunities available such as the ‘Good Old Days’ Marquee displaying old photographs of the district which will no doubt evoke a few fond memories whilst you munch on your candy floss. An impressive fireworks display which will light up the night sky in a blaze of colour will bring the celebration to a close.

Speaking at the launch of the carnival Councillor William Walker, Chairman of Down District Council said:  “This unique event marks 42 years of this Council and what better way is there to than to go out with a bang in our County Town of Downpatrick enjoying a good old fashioned evening of family fun.

“The celebration which will appeal to everyone kicks off at 4.00 pm so make sure you are there on time as you won’t want to miss a minute of this fabulous event.”
